County Police Officer (Lateral Transfer Recruitment)
The Ontario County Office of Sheriff is currently seeking lateral transfer applicants to fill vacant County Police Officer positions. You must be a current Police Officer to be eligible for a transfer. If you're interested in being a Police Officer but you're not currently working as a Police Officer, please take the Civil Service exam for Police Officer.
Candidates must hold permanent, competitive status as a County Police Officer (or similar title) within the NYS Civil Service system.
Pay is commensurate with experience after approval. Starting pay for lateral transfer Police Officers with experience:
Less than 1 year: $62,544.77 | 3 years to less than 4 years: $68,782.96 |
5 or more years: $81,893.76

1 year to less than 3 years: $65,557.44 | 4 years to less than 5 years: $72,876.96 |
- Also receive a bonus of $7000 (paid out in two $3500 lump sums) if employed as Deputy Sheriff with OCSO before July 2nd, 2022.
- Additional immediate monetary stipends include shift differential, Holiday pay, 3-hour minimum OT call-out pay, education stipend, and phone stipends.
- Future stipends to receive after varying years of service at OCSO include longevity pay, retention bonuses, and specialty unit pay.
- PLUS save money on gas travelling to and from work with a take-home patrol car.
Healthcare Benefits:
Healthcare remains free of cost for the remainder of 2022. Beginning in 2023 employees will have a choice between a high-deductible plan or 5% contributions. HRA and HSA contributions made by the County. Optional Dental Plan.
Applicants DO NOT need to be a County Resident at the time of application, but must be a County Resident at the time of appointment.
